REALTOR® vs Real Estate Agent

Should I hire a REALTOR®, or a Real Estate Agent? In layman’s terms, “Real Estate Agent” and “REALTOR®” are used interchangeably.  However, in Georgia, there's a big difference.  A real estate agent has obtained a license from the Georgia Real Estate Commission by passing the required educational and testing requirements. REALTORS® are real estate agents who ALSO subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics and Professional Standards and are expected to maintain a higher level of knowledge, as it relates to the process of buying and selling real estate.  REALTORS® are committed to serving all parties of each transaction honestly, as experts on real estate subject matter, to help resolve unforeseen issues while moving the transaction towards settlement. Both Mary Beth Lake and Jeff Yeomans of Mary Beth Lake & Associates are REALTORS®.
